Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 30, 2026
SE Deskbook publishes practical systems engineering guides. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it, in plain English. If anything here is unclear, email supportsedeskbook.com.
Who we are
SE Deskbook is an independent publisher of systems engineering guides, operating sedeskbook.com. We're small, so questions about your data reach a real person. Email supportsedeskbook.com.
What we collect
- Your email address: when you sign in to your library or subscribe to the newsletter.
- Your name and order details: when you buy a guide.
- Imprint details: the name, purpose, and organization you enter at checkout to personalize your copy (see “Your imprint” below).
- Payment information, handled entirely by our payment processor, Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.
- Basic technical logs: our hosting and delivery providers record standard request data, such as IP address and browser type, to keep the site secure and running.
How we use your information
- To deliver the guides you buy and keep them available in your library.
- To send the newsletter, only if you asked for it.
- To answer your support emails.
- To detect and prevent fraud or abuse.
- To meet our legal, tax, and accounting obligations.
We never sell your personal information, and we don't use it for advertising.
Your imprint
When you buy a guide, we stamp the name, organization, and a unique order ID you provide into your PDF copy. This personalizes your copy and ties a licensed copy to its buyer. We store these details with your order so we can re-issue your download if you ever need it again.
How long we keep it
We keep order records and account information for as long as you have a library with us, and for as long as we need them to meet legal, tax, and accounting requirements. You can ask us to delete your data at any time.
How we protect your data
We protect your information with standard safeguards: encrypted (HTTPS) connections across the site, access controls on our database and files, and reputable infrastructure providers. No method of storage or transmission is ever perfectly secure, but we work to keep your data safe, and we limit what we collect in the first place.
Your choices and rights
You can:
- Unsubscribe from the newsletter using the link in any email.
- Ask for a copy of the data we hold about you, or for it in a portable format.
- Ask us to correct or delete your data.
- Object to, or ask us to limit, certain uses of your data.
- Withdraw consent you've given (for example, to the newsletter) at any time.
Just email supportsedeskbook.com and we'll take care of it, and we won't treat you differently for exercising these rights. Depending on where you live, you may have extra protections: California residents have rights under the CCPA/CPRA (to know, delete, and not have personal information sold, which we don't do), and people in the EU or UK have rights under the GDPR, including the right to complain to their local data-protection authority. We honor those requests, and we respect browser privacy signals like Global Privacy Control (GPC).
Children
SE Deskbook is meant for working professionals and engineering students. It isn't directed to children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Where your data is handled
We operate from the United States, and our providers process data there. If you contact us or buy from outside the US, you're sending your information to the US.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle data, we'll update this page and the “Last updated” date at the top, and call out significant changes clearly.
